Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Review - The Sharpest Zoom Lens For Cropped Sensor DSLR
If you own a cropped sensor DSLR and are in the market for a great zoom lens, then the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is an excellent buy. I tested this lens on both the cropped sensor and full frame sensor cameras. I used the Nikon mount, though Tamron made the Sony, Pentax, and Canon mounts as well.
Originally designed for a full frame sensor camera, the focal length is not very comfortable on an APS-C (cropped) sensor DSLR. However, the image quality is much better in the cropped censor camera than the full frame equivalent.
If you use an APS-C DSLR and require a wider angle and more versatile focal length, you are better off buying the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC lens.
With the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, I was able to get extremely sharp images, perhaps the best among all Tamron zoom lenses, when used in conjunction with an APS-C camera. Distortion, chromatic aberration, and vignetting are all minimal to negligible. If you feel that you can adjust to the awkward zoom range, you'll get yourself a great zoom lens for your cropped sensor camera.
I was able to take some really sharp group photos and shoot some interesting still life with this lens.
For those using full frame DSLRs, the lens does not perform as well compared when used in conjunction with a cropped sensor camera. All the distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration will start to show up in the corner. This of course can be remedied by using the proper post processing techniques.
In conclusion, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is an excellent professional lens at a bargain price.

Post Date : Oct 11, 2011 05:05:37 | Usually ships in 1-2 business days

Compact, lightweight and a wide magnification range - this standard zoom lens features a wide focal length range from normal to telephoto equivalent to 29-320mm in the 35mm format. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer for up to 4-stops of effective correction even at full zoom. Since Canon's optical image stabilization system is in the lens, not in the camera, you can see the stabilized, steadier images through the viewfinder. And the circular aperture can give beautiful background blur effects. This new wide zoom ratio EF-S lens delivers excellent high-speed performance at an affordable price.
